The College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) held its monthly flag ceremony at the Lansigan Hall today, July 01, 2024. Led by the CFNR Library, the program started with the message of its Head College Librarian, Ms. Sarah Jane B. Pomay-Berbo. Ms. Pomay-Berbo facilitated a meditation session for the staff, allowing them to reflect on their accomplishments over the past months and to set their intentions and plans for the coming months of the year. The session was a valuable opportunity for everyone to acknowledge their hard work, celebrate their achievements, and focus on future goals with renewed clarity and purpose.
Dean Marlo Mendoza then highlighted the recent partnerships of CFNR with several institutions such as The Laguna Prime Multipurpose Cooperative (LP MPC) which gave scholarship slots for the college. In addition, Dean Mendoza also announced its partnership with RTI, a US-based consulting firm for a biodiversity project involving selected faculty members.
Finally, Dean Mendoza announced the university’s recognition for its excellent turnout in the Forestry Licensure Exam, the CFNR Executive Committee’s strategic planning workshop in the UPLB Baguio Satellite Office, the CFNR’s visit with DENR CAR Regional Executive Director Engr. Paquito T. Moreno, a meeting with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte about reducing carbon footprints in the city by planting Indigenous plants, and some more updates on the “A Thousand Forests” movie and program. He stated that they had a meeting with Sun Life Foundation and CDO Food Products Inc., as they will be participating in the A Thousand Forests Program. “I think there are many serious companies out there [that are] well-intentioned. We have to develop a scheme for how they can participate na science-based,” Dean Marlo said. He also mentioned the project about the forest database that includes details of carbon measurement.
Different academic units and training centers followed and shared their announcements during the ceremony. (By Janine P. Cruz, Jheana Mae H. Medialdia, and Irish Gwyneth P. Habig)
