International speakers featured on CFNR Forestry Seminar Series

The UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) in partnership with the Office of the Coordinator for Research, Extension, and Linkages (OCREL) conducted a forestry seminar with the theme, “Exploring resilient forest restoration: From seed sourcing to scalable incentives” on 20 September 2024 at the Nicolas P. Lansigan Auditorium, CFNR.

Four international speakers from Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT Asia Regional Office – Malaysia graced the event. Dr. Hannes Gaisberger talked about Spatially explicit threat analysis and its role in prioritizing conservation and restoration of native tree species. The second speaker featured Dr. Tobias Fremout, who presented his topic on Diversity for Restoration (D4R): applying species functional traits, distribution modeling and climate change predictions to guide species and seed source selection in forest restoration. This was followed by Dr. Riina Jalonen’s lecture on Resolving the limitations in national and regional tree seeds systems. Finally, Dr. Chris Kettle delivered the final presentation on My Farm trees: implementing a blockchain-enabled digital platform for farmer-led restoration.

There were 314 seminar attendees, a large majority of which are students (Louie D. Amongo).
